try me: KSEAP&DC

what?  KSEAP & DC stands for kiehls superbly efficient anti-perspirant & deodorant cream.  and i know what you're thinking - is this really a post about underarm sweat?  and yes, it it.  or actually, it isn't, because this my friends is about how sweating no longer exists.  oh yes, i'm going there.

now i don't want to go into all the sticky details here, but its been like 1000 degrees all summer.  and even when it's not summer, i hate to sweat.  i also can't stand those ridiculous white marks that appear on 85% of my wardrobe that just so happens to be shades of black.

a friend told me about this product two years ago - and i was all "oh you pay that much for deodorant - how clever, you're insane." and promptly ignored her advice.  but every time i smeared the alleged "invisible solid" on another dry-clean only garment, or felt like my "secret" wasn't a secret anymore (if you know what i'm saying) i was thinking about her words of wisdom.

so about a month ago, on one of these 1000+ degree days, i hadn't even left the house yet and i was already thinking about a second shower.  so i went online and i bought it.  and i am never turning back.

the fact that it is a lotion is a little strange at first, but you get used to it.  and i am telling you - it works soooo well and you need soooo little.  i'm going to warn you the price is nothing to get excited about, but the results really are.  think about how much money you'll save on dry cleaning and how much face you'll save on never smelling like a foot.

you know we love a good bargain, but sometimes, a good product is worth investing in.

eat with us: gram & dun

let's eat locally for brunch, shall we?

there is a fairly short list of places that come to mind when i think about who has the best spots for outdoor dining.  and when you have a weekend like this past one, temps in the upper 70s - lower 80s, a girls gotta have a grand go-to for grazing.

i mentioned in this post that locally owned gram & dun, on the country club plaza, occupies one of the most coveted patio spots in town.  situated in the old baja 600 locale, you simply can't find a better spot for outdoor dining on the plaza.  add to the ambiance with the impressive menu by executive chef bradley gilmore and you'll see for yourself why this third addition to the locally owned bread & butter concepts family is worth checking out.

cocktails your thing?  enjoy $5 cocktails from their sophisticated lineup of concoctions monday - friday from 3pm- 6pm.

and if brunch is what you have you mind, let's get down to business with one of the best ways to start a sunday, or any day for that matter.

i have to have coffee in the morning.  have. to.  have. it.  and sometimes a mimosa is in order.  now, we didn't order the bloody maria, but our bubbly waitress, miss britney, did insist on a little sample and let me tell you, that little maria was one spicy little mama.  there was something about jalepeno infused tequila - i'm not sure - i was really into my mimosa, but it was tasty.  next time maria, next time.

what i did sink my teeth into was the Sweet & Salty French Toast.  Described as: hole-in-the-wall style: stuffed with egg, sesame bacon brittle, G&D fruit syrup.

Now one piece of toast was missing an egg, but i was assured that was by design.  didn't matter to me though anyway.  two pieces was enough gluttony for this gal.

either way, that was followed by a little taste of the Big Easy: Tasso ham, house-made sausage, poached eggs, Cajun hollandaise, Wolferman's English muffin.

onto the Potato Pancakes: goat cheese, apple-onion chutney, créme fraiche.

and nicely finished off with a bite of the Not-So-Huevos Rancheros perfect Scotch egg, chorizo stew, Not-So-Standard Potato Chips, jalapeño, cilantro.

(random sidenote: i love tiny serving containers.  i just do.  whatever.  don't be concerned.)

we need to implement some type of rating system.  let's just say for now, this was damn good.  we'll be headed back for dinner soon.  patios in the fall are just as awesome and i can imagine everything else on the menu is as well.

good food.  good friends.  good day.  supporting local biz.  you know how we do.
now, go check it out for yourself:

and try one of the other spots in the family:  urban table  &  BRGR

dressed to grill

last night may have been the nicest evening in recent memory.  there was a slight breeze, a crispness to the air and all the proof i needed to know that fall is on its way.

this necklace is in heavy rotation lately.  and after my friends at edit mentioned that i gave them the scoop on where you can find it at a massive steal - i have been getting questions about why i didn't spill the beans, or beads if you will, sooner.

i mentioned my love for the yellow one back in february, but at $150 a pop - i knew my chances of ever owning these in the rainbow of colors they come in, was a pipe dream.  but then i stumbled upon several sellers on ebay offering an impressive replica at a price i can totally get on board with.  at around $14, a little variety is totally doable.  opt for the "buy it now" option and save yourself the drama of bidding war.

i love this look - it's perfect for a late summer backyard soiree.

get it here:  dress & necklace

or replicate it for less, here:  dress & necklace

style me: denim shirt dresses

i can't wait for fall.  i love everything about it.  we've already starting talking about what halloween costume i'll be making for alex and i'm already thinking about the stylish "costumes" fall brings into my wardrobe.

i wrote about the jcrew blogger event that i attended here.  at that event i had my eye on several of the trends for fall including polka dots (check!) & chambray.  i spotted this adorable denim shirtdress that i thought would be a nice addition to my wardrobe for the cooler months ahead.  that is if there are any cooler months ahead...  i can see this going great with flats or boots and would easily carry over into winter with tights.

but that price is all wrong.

and then jcrew bested themselves with their factory store - which has always opened up on friday and offered great deals on merchandise during the weekend hours.  i found this chambray shirtdress, along with a host of other great styles at a price i can get on board with:

now that's more like it.  the same look for less.
check out the jcrew factory store now open seven days a week online.

love the new jcrew jules dress in snowcat?  who doesn't?  check out the similar option my friends over at edit found for a fraction of the price!

looking for an easy way to incorporate the polka dot trend this fall?  check out these adorable bags at hansel from basel.

celebrate with us: 60 years

evan's dad turned 60 last month and we wanted to celebrate in a significant and memorable way.  we came up with this idea to hire a personal chef to cook for us in our home so we could take our time, enjoy each other's company and savor an insanely delicious meal with some fantastic wine and champagne pairings.

sixty years is a milestone afterall and dads, i mean really, really good ones, deserve to be celebrated.

i think there are far to few of the good ones in this world.  the ones who lead by example and in time, have sons who grow up to be really great husbands.  of course moms have so much to do with it- but there is something to be said for the really good men who help shape really good men.

so fathers of the world, if you're reading this, the best thing you can do for your sons is to be a great man/husband/friend, so that someday, when your boys settle down, they know what it takes to make a really happy home and be an all around good dude too.

happy 60th birthday to my father-in-law.  one of the really, really good dudes.

wondering what was on the menu?  take a look:

starter: steamed mussels in a green curry sauce

salad: arugula & hericot vert w/ white balsamic vinaigrette

1st course: sliced tenderloin w/ duck confit topped w/ a red wine demi-glace.  served w/ cauliflower mash potatoe & candied carrots

2nd course: pan seared barramundi in a shitake miso broth w/ potatoe noodles & chinese vegetables

dessert: puff pastry stuffed w/ brie, strawberries, & candied walnuts. served w/ four berry couli

in other words, i gained five pounds.
